The Institute of Nutrition
The Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University (INMU) was established in 1977 with the mission of strengthening the National Food and Nutrition Plan. Since its founding, INMU has fulfilled this mission by conducting research at community and laboratory levels, by providing national and international training and
education programs, and technical services in food and nutrition development.
The goal has been, and continues to be, the attainment of the highest possible quality of life for individuals, communities, Thai society, and for people living in other countries within and outside the Southeast Asian Region.
To promote better nutrition for all throughout the life cycle through food and nutrition system, INMU has strategically conduct interdisciplinary research, provide education and training, and technical services. Several collaborative researches have been conducted with institutions within the country, in Asia region and advance institutions in US, Europe, New Zealand.
INMU also serves as a quality resource center with a reliable information system on food, nutrition and allied areas. Our vision is to be recognized as a leader in food and nutrition through multidisciplinary food and nutrition research, innovation, capacity building and transfer of knowledge and technologies to effectively address critical food and nutrition challenges at individual, community, national and international levels.
INMU has played significant roles in alleviating national nutritional problems through its active involvement in national food and nutrition policy-making, expert consultation and other technical supports to nutrition programs in the country. INMU also provides technical supports through graduate teaching, consultancy, short course training and laboratory services for SE Asia region.
INMU has been designated as a Centre of Excellence and a Collaborating Centre by FAO and WHO, respectively.
Main tasks in the project
The MU is co-leader of WP4 (linear programming) and WP7 (integration in national policies). In addition MU contribute to WP2 (data and intervention mapping), WP3 (FCT), and WP5 (summarizing of data and recommendation from WP2 – WP4) and WP8 (dissemination).
"SMILING for Action", Final dissemination event, 3rd April, Phnom-Penh, Cambodia
The final dissemination event will be organized Thursday 3rd of April 2014, at Sofitel Phnom-Penh, Cambodia. The five national roadmaps of priority interventions to prevent micronutrient deficiencies during the project will be presented to a large audience of stakeholders, policymakers, representatives of International organizations involved in nutrition policies implementation.

SMILING outcomes at the Micronutrient Forum Conference
Two presentations at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 2014) will be about specically SMILING. Many researchers from the project will present outcomes related to the project.
